Why are the Commanders No. 29 in Yahoo's power rankings? BMitch & Finlay think it's last year's defense

It’s been a while since BMitch & Finlay did some power rankings, but it was time on Friday after Frank Schwab of Yahoo! Sports had put out his own saying the Commanders are 29th in the league.

“It’s interesting when you talk about rosters vs. elite talent, and I’m not sure the Commanders’ roster stacks up that well 1 to 53 with the rest of the league, even in the division,” JP said.

“But look at Dallas and Philly, and I think this is where the person inside the locker room has a totally different mindset of a person outside the locker room,” Brian replied. “With all that that they had last year, Dallas was gone in the first week, and the Eagles looked like trash the last how many weeks? It comes down to when you're playing and how good the chemistry is; some teams have the best talent in the world and can't win a damn thing, and some teams, people will tell you they don't know what they're gonna get, and they'll keep squeaking out victories.”

So yeah, Schwab has the Commanders at 29, and…

“I thought that was a little harsh,” Landfill said. “They should maybe be somewhere around 23ish; there are four or five teams definitively worse.

“These things that they're telling you right now came based more off of what happened last year. The Giants beat us twice last year, so how can we sit here and say that we’re better than the Giants?” BMitch replied.

Maybe, but Jeff has a different strategy:

“I’m not mad, because let them sleep on us!” Jeff said. “And it keeps us at bay too, because I believe if they would have put us any higher, the Ashburn Syndrome would have ran crazy over the area. It’s fine; we know what happened last year and we’re sitting at 29. It’s a preseason list and we don't care, but if things change for the better, I'm gonna keep sipping the Ashburn juice!”

Metal Chris, with the guys on the remote broadcast, was with that too, but JP doesn’t see the Commanders as ‘sleeping giants’ per se.

“I really like what this author did because it's not just a hot take, like, ‘oh, if Jayden Daniels is good, they could vault to the Top 5.’ No, they probably can't, it's gonna take some time,” JP said. “But, they asked a series of questions here and went through the offseason, and the first line said the Commanders had a strong off-season and draft, and I agree. The guys they lost were good players, but I think they can withstand most of those.”

    But there’s one burning question:

“Quarterback is what everyone is going to gravitate towards and whatever Jayden becomes, but they asked this question, the burning question: can Dan Quinn fix this Commanders defense?” JP read. “If Jayden hits, they can be right there, but their defense was God awful, and we don’t focus on that whatsoever. Can Dan Quinn fix this defense, how much can he fix it in year one, and what does that look like, and can Joe Whitt continue to work his magic with the existing Commanders DBs?”
