Suspect in drug death found competent

TOWN OF RUBY (WKBT) -- On Friday, the Chippewa County man accused of selling drugs that led to an overdose death was found competent to stand trial.

43-year-old Casey Schueneman is facing several charges including First Degree Reckless Homicide as a Party to a Crime.

According to the criminal complaint, Schueneman allegedly sold methamphetamine to a victim on March 11. About 30 minutes later, deputies found the victim unresponsive in a ditch. Authorities attempted life saving measures, but were unsuccessful.

In court Friday, the judge found probable cause for the defendant to proceed to trial following a competency assessment.

Schueneman is held on a $50,000 cash bond.

If convicted, he faces a maximum of 72 years in jail.
