AI Creates New Crops Five Time Faster

Much of the world’s agriculture business has been plagued by drought, floods, and insects. These have dropped yields, and in some places, including parts of Africa, yields have dropped to zero.

    Dangers Of 120 Degree Temperatures

AI has started to improve development speeds in many industries. The latest of these is agriculture, and there appears to be every chance that crop yields in some parts of the world can be sharply increased.

According to the BBC, “Using current and past data, such as from satellite imagery and temperature and rainfall readings, and combining that with future projections, ClimateAi aims to give farmers the most accurate possible, locally-tailored weather forecasts, from one hour to six months ahead.”

The company describes itself as “ClimateAi has built the first climate resilience platform, pioneering the application of artificial intelligence to mitigate the impact of climate change and uncover new opportunities that may arise as a result.” Founded in 2017, it has already worked in over 50 countries.

    Technology With Limits

The technology has limits. For example, it does not matter what analysis AI gives about improving yields in Africa, where ongoing drought has obliterated crops, or the odds that these areas can be restored for agriculture in the future.

However, there are some examples where technology could be beneficial. In Iowa, crop production was steady last year. However, yields were the worst in history in the eastern part of the state. Long-term preparation for the drought might well have partially solved the problem.
