When Jeff Hardy joined his brother Matt in AEW, it appeared to be the perfect place for them to have their final run as a tag team. This was because AEW takes tag team wrestling seriously, and given the brothers’ ages and the fact they have families, they would be working fewer dates and be on the road less. However, after Jeff was arrested for DUI, he would be suspended without pay and ordered to attend rehab.

Thankfully, Jeff managed to get his demons under control and returned to AEW television, although neither he nor Matt was ever pushed as strongly again. And now, following them both having departed the company, Matt has publicly acknowledged on his podcast that the blame for their AEW run not going to plan does lie with his brother “ because he’s the one that screwed up.

“That was on Jeff, and that lies solely on Jeff because he’s the one that screwed up earlier on. And I am openly admitting that. That is me speaking honestly. And, we would have loved to be able to get another opportunity to do that and to work hard, to work smart, whatever else, and to have that last great run, you know, as a tag team and have done it in AEW, I would have been okay doing that. But, you know, lo and behold, just, sometimes things don’t work out the way you hope they do.”

While the brothers are currently working for TNA, it is known that neither has signed a contract, which seemingly leaves the door open for them to return to WWE, with an eventual Hall of Fame induction seemingly inevitable. Although considering Jeff’s final appearance for the company saw him walk out without a reason during a house show tag match, it isn’t guaranteed WWE will want him to return as a talent despite his popularity.
