Inside Michael J Fox's 'epic' marriage to Tracy Pollan after 'tough' start

Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan's marriage is still going strong after over three decades, despite a rocky start.

Pollan celebrated her 64th birthday on June 22, and her husband paid a touching tribute to her on Instagram. Fox first posted a stunning black and white snapshot of Pollan, followed by a sweet photo of the couple with their arms around each other near a lake.

"In every beautiful way, it's beautiful Tracy's beautiful day. I love you and today will be magnificent," he sentimentally wrote on the post. "Always forever your Mike with so-much love. Happy birthday. It's gonna be an epic day," he added.

While the pair have a loving union now, they didn't exactly start out on the right foot. In 1985, Pollan was cast as Ellen, the love interest of Fox's character Alex P. Keaton, on the hit NBC comedy Family Ties.

And apparently, Pollan wasn't the biggest fan of Fox's personality initially. "I think I thought he was kind of full of himself," Pollan confessed in a 2005 episode of Inside the Actor's Studio. However, Fox's charm quickly grew on Pollan.

"We started to work together, and I got a completely different impression and how completely opposite from that he was-just funny and so smart, and just all of these other things came through those first two weeks we worked together," she added.

Fox and Pollan began their romantic journey in 1987, and a year later, they were happily married. Today, they are proud parents to four children: Sam, 35, Aquinnah and Schuyler, 29, and Esme, 22. In 1991, Fox received the devastating diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.

However, he was blessed to have his wife by his side, supporting him through every health challenge. "One of the things I'll always love Tracy for is that at that moment, she didn't blink," Fox shared during a 2020 appearance on The Today Show.

"She's there in the front lines with me every single day." During an interview with People in April, Fox further expressed his deep appreciation for his enduring relationship with Pollan after 35 years. "It's great having a partner and having someone that knows you in a [certain] way when everyone in the world thinks they know you. [Only] one person actually knows you," he revealed.
