‘That Is an Absurd Assertion!’ MSNBC Host Shuts Down Guest Who Claimed Democrats Want Abortions ‘Three Days After the Person’s Born’

The president of a conservative think tank claimed that liberals want abortion to be legal “until three days after the person’s born.”

Dr. Kevin Roberts of the Heritage Foundation joined Saturday’s installment of The Weekend , where host Symone Sanders-Townsend asked him about abortion. The issue is top of mind this year, in what is the first presidential election since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to abortion. Since then, several states have banned the procedure and many Republicans have been clamoring for a national ban.

The Heritage Foundation has been pushing a series of policy proposals known as Project 2025, which they hope will be enacted if Donald Trump returns to the White House.

“You and the organization in this plan talks about changing the Department of Health and Human Services to the Department of Life,” Sanders-Townsend said to Roberts. “Do you think women in America should be able to get an abortion if that is what the doctor says they need?”

“Abortion’s not healthcare,” Roberts replied. “I find it really interesting, if not worse, that you wouldn’t support the change of the department name to the Department of Life. I thought we were all in support of life.”

His response prompted some crosstalk and the following exchange in which he claimed liberals somehow favor abortion after the baby is born:

SANDERS-TOWNSEND: I just wanna, no if I may though–

ROBERTS: Why aren’t we talking about the people who–

SANDERS-TOWNSEND: I just wanna know, do you believe–

ROBERTS: –are supporting legislation that abortion can happen until three days after the person’s born. This is an absurd framing by this network.

SANDERS-TOWNSEND: That is absurd and an absurd assertion! As a person with an actual womb, I’m telling you, that does not happen.

[CROSSTALK]

SANDERS-TOWNSEND: Dr. Roberts, does Heritage and Project 2025 believe that a woman should be able to have an abortion if her doctor says she needs one? This is a yes or no question.

ROBERTS: Abortion is not healthcare. Abortion is the murder of a human being.

SANDERS-TOWNSEND: All right, well, I disagree thoroughly, Dr. Kevin Roberts. But I am so glad that you were here.
