CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A mobile farm market will be traveling around a few locations in Chemung County starting next month.

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chemung County is launching a new Veggie Van program to bring fresh, locally-grown produce to Chemung County residents. The van, which is going to be operated by Lowery Family Farms, will set up shop in three designated locations on Wednesdays from July 3 through Sept. 25. The van will be at the Chemung County Fairgrounds (Gate 3) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Horseheads First Presbyterian Church from noon to 2 p.m., and the Ernie Davis Community Center from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Veggie Van customers can use cash, credit, FMNP Fresh Connect Checks, Farm Market Coupons (given to seniors, veterans, and WIC participants), and EBT/SNAP. People using EBT/SNAP will be able to use Double Up Bucks to get even more fresh produce.

The CCE already has Veggie Vans in several counties, including Steuben, but this will be the first time Chemung County residents can take part in the program. This Veggie Van pilot program is funded by Chemung County and the Tioga Downs Foundation.
