MAS Holdings has entered into a three-year offtake agreement with Ambercycle to scale textile-to-textile regeneration.

The partnership will see the Sri Lanka conglomerate use the Los Angeles-based material sciences company’s regenerated polyester, Cycora, to boost production capabilities. Per the agreement, MAS Holdings will reserve the capacity to utilize Cycora for their customer partners, enabling Ambercycle to “expedite” its efforts to reach commercial-scale production. The collaboration also aligns with MAS Holding’s “Plan for Change” sustainability strategy, supporting one of the plan’s primary goals of deriving 50 percent of its revenue from sustainable products by 2025.

“We’re committed to revolutionizing apparel production creation and manufacturing, and this collaboration is an important milestone for the industry to achieve circularity at scale,” said Nemanthie Kooragamage, MAS Holdings director of group sustainable business. “Together with Ambercycle, MAS is enabling better access to regenerated next-gen material for our customer partners. This allows brands to meet the growing demand from consumers for sustainable apparel, while creating a positive environmental impact. The partnership is an example of how manufacturers are a missing link in the adoption of material solutions, and we are excited to have an opportunity to offer Ambercycle’s technology up for brand adoption.”

The duo confirmed that MAS Holdings is the first apparel manufacturer to form an offtake agreement in efforts to commercialize circular polyester in terms of speed, scale, quality and performance — all working to provide a sustainable solution to minimize the amount of virgin polyester entering the apparel supply chain.

Ambercycle’s Cycora is produced through proprietary molecular regeneration technology and delivers quality on par with virgin materials but with lower greenhouse gas emissions. MAS Holdings’ offtake of the recycled polyester will be enough to produce roughly 10 million garments.

“Supply chain partners play a crucial role in advancing our work to decarbonize fashion and minimize the impact of raw material extraction on our environment,” said Shay Sethi, cofounder and chief executive officer of Ambercycle. “We’re pleased to share our work with MAS as one of the premier manufacturing partners in the global apparel ecosystem. Together we share a strong commitment to diverting textiles from landfills and pioneering circularity at scale.”
