Jon Lyons and Chris Scheim were on WEEI on Sunday and broke down the recent four-year, $36 million extension the Patriots agreed to with running back Rhamondre Stevenson. Both guys like Stevenson the player. Scheim thinks the Patriots are mismanaging their money, while Lyons is fine with the deal but still frustrated that the Patriots have holes at left tackle and outside receiver.

“I’m fine with the deal. I’m not jumping for joy, but I also don’t hate it,” Lyons said. “I think Stevenson is a really good player who was in a bad situation the last couple of years. Actually, two years ago, he had 1,000 yards rushing, five yards per carry and 69 catches. He was the 11th-graded running back by Pro Football Focus. … This year only 619 yards rushing and 31st in PFF. So, I think if you get the 2022 guy, I’ll like it (the deal) quite a bit. Also, right now my mentality for the Patriots is 2025 and if you have Drake Maye starting you’ll want a guy like Stevenson to lean on.”

“Your (the Patriots’) priorities are not in the right place,” Scheim argued. “Running backs are so easy to come by right now in the NFL. They’re freaking everywhere. I like Rhamondre. A lot of people do. It’s too much money.”
