C-Mac: Arguing with umps at home plate is 'terrible look' for Juan Soto

With the Yankees looking to avoid another series loss on Sunday afternoon, Juan Soto stepped to the plate in a big spot, with the Yanks trailing 3-1 with two outs in the bottom of the eighth.

Facing a two-strike count, Soto asked for time and turned his back to the pitcher as he stepped out of the box. Time was not granted, the pitch came in right down the pipe, and Soto was rung up, ending the inning and sending the Yanks to another loss.

Soto was livid, and afterward, C-Mac was annoyed at the Yankee star’s tendency to argue with the home plate umpire when it comes to balls and strikes, or in this case, timeout requests.

“We all love him. We all want him here forever,” C-Mac said. “But for the first time, what happened yesterday was a terrible look for Juan Soto.

“Late in the game and trailing, with the funk the Yankees are in right now…when you’re losing and you’re struggling, this stuff sucks. The complaining all the time…watching him every day, when he’s on your team and has a 1.000 OPS and has been clutch and leads the league in walks…but when he’s on your team, the act gets old.”

C-Mac has already grown tired of the back and forth with umpires, and while he knows Soto knows the strike zone better than any other hitter in the game, it doesn’t mean that he wants to see him constantly feuding with umps, especially during a stretch where the Yanks aren’t playing well.

“These are the same things that bother me about Jeff McNeil, and for me it was Dustin Pedroia,” C-Mac said. “When you call for time, of course you have to make sure it’s granted. It’s baseball.”
