2-Year-Old's Original 'Butter Chicken' Lullaby Is the Song of the Summer

Traditionally, lullabies tend to be about going to bed (more or less). The lyrics usually have to do with cradles rocking or babies hushing or stars twinkling in the night sky...but really, a lullaby can be about pretty much anything — as long as it helps your kid fall asleep!

In a hilarious video posted on June 20, a 2-year-old boy is in his crib at night, singing a song he made up himself...but it's not about any of the usual bedtime stuff. It is, however, about one of his very favorite things: butter chicken. Sounds like somebody's going to be dreaming about dinner!

"Song of the summer?" wrote Breanna Hughes . It's so yummy! Hey, he's not wrong. Quite a few commenters were in agreement with this toddler.

"Same little dude, same," wrote Kristin.

"This is a love song that can be appreciated by so many of us. A song to unite lovers of butter chicken," wrote CrossStitchKitties.

"I feel ya little man," wrote Beckasaurus87.

Other commenters wished their own kids were equally as enamored with their culinary creations.

"Just once in this lifetime I'd like to hear my kids singing love songs about my cooking," wrote MrsBest.

"Wish my kids sang about my cooking ," wrote Chrystalxo.

Of course, you never know — this kid could be singing about takeout butter chicken! Whoever's preparing his favorite dish, they're obviously skilled . Plus, butter chicken is a big hit with lots of little ones . Parents of picky eaters might be surprised to hear this, but exposing kids to flavorful, spicy foods early on can help them to develop a broader palate in the long run.

When Can Kids Start Eating Spices?

Experts say babies can start eating spices pretty much as soon they start eating solid foods, according to Romper.

“'Incorporating spicy foods safely into a child’s diet can help diversify the foods they’ll accept short-term, and broaden their palates long-term,' says pediatrician Whitney Casares, author of The Working Mom Blueprint: Winning at Parenting Without Losing Yourself ."

That said, "spice" doesn't always mean heat (so skip the jalapeños at first and stick to spices like cinnamon, turmeric, saffron, etc.).

"When your baby has started exploring solid foods, you can think about the new flavors to introduce with them, says Casares, who recommends starting with a small amount of a mild spice, evenly distributed in the food. So you can imagine blending swirls of cinnamon into your baby’s warm cereal, for example, or onto soft roasted vegetables; such a technique won’t overwhelm a child’s digestive system, Casares says. Another benefit to adding ground spices first? 'They won’t see it in their food — and toddlers can be very picky about the way their food looks,' says Dr. Tracey Agnese, M.D., an NYC pediatrician and supportive resource for baby and mama care."

Also remember that kids often need to be exposed to something multiple times before they start liking it, so don't be discouraged if your baby or toddler seems to prefer bland foods for now!
