Inside Out 2 Beat Dune: Part 2 Box Office Sales In 8 Days

Eight days after the global release of Inside Out 2 , the film has claimed the title of the highest-grossing movie of 2024.

Emotions are running high, as many families and people scramble to the box office. Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 has officially overtaken Dune: Part 2 to become the highest-grossing film of 2024. Surprisingly, it only took eight days for the family movie to earn the title at the U.S. box office. It has continued to shatter some 2024 records, even taking the biggest U.S. opening of 2024 to become the first film to cross $100 million in its first few days (since Barbie’s achievement last summer). The summer may be heating up, but cinema-goers are still keeping their cool in some hopefully AC-chilled theatres.

Variety was the first to report and crunch the numbers for Inside Out 2 , earning a whopping $724 million at the worldwide box office—including $355 million in the U.S. and Canada. This meant that Dune: Part 2′ s $711 million global haul (with $282 million from the U.S. and Canada) has moved to second place for the most successful movie of the year.

As for the second weekend at the box office, Inside Out 2 raked in another $100 million in North America and $164 million from other territories. This set another record for the animated picture, earning the title of the second-biggest opening of all time for an animated film, behind the $182 million Incredibles 2 brought in back in 2018.

It is crazy to think that the first movie in this franchise debuted almost ten years ago, back in 2015. Yet, it emotionally moved people enough to be hyped for a sequel, which took almost a decade to make. Inside Out 2 takes audiences further inside the mind of Riley, now a teenager conjuring an entirely new range of emotions. As many say, the formative years of one life is typically the wildest! CGMagazine’s Phil Brown gave the first film a 9/10, stating, “ Inside Out is weep-worthy, devastating, and thought-provoking, yet somehow also cheerfully entertaining and wildly creative.”

This makes a lot of sense as audiences seem to be losing their emotions and their minds for this follow-up movie. So far, Inside Out 2 is has a 96% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 91% from critics. While I still have to go out and see it this week, I can only imagine how Disney and Pixar have elevated the core concept they created almost ten years ago. I am very interested in the new emotions and their voice actors, such as Maya Hawke’s ( Stranger Things ) Anxiety and Ayo Edebiri’s ( The Bear ) Envy.
