Elon Musk is officially a dad of 12! The CEO of Tesla confirmed the news to Page Six that he and Shivon Zilis welcomed a new baby earlier this year. The baby’s name and sex have not been revealed, and Musk has a message for those who will say this was all a secret.

“As for ‘secretly fathered,’ that is also false,” he told Page Six . “All our friends and family know. Failure to issue a press release, which would be bizarre, does not mean ‘secret.’”
And we do hear what he’s saying. The important people knew, it would have indeed been weird to issue a “press release,” and though he doesn’t owe the public anything in regards to his kids (no celebrity does!), it would have been fitting if he or Zilis posted a birth announcement on social media. Especially given his supposed obsession with birth rates .
“Many countries are already well below replacement rate, and the trend is that almost all will be. This is simply a fact, not a ‘debunked theory,'” he told Page Six. ” … 2.1 kids is replacement rate, and obviously the world as a whole will soon drop below that point.”
So was his and his partners’ decision to have well over 2.1 kids merely a product of trying to increase birth rates?

Musk welcomed his first son, Nevada Alexander, with ex-wife Justine Wilson in 2002. At just 10 weeks old, Nevada died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) . The former couple then welcomed twins Vivian and Griffin in 2004 and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian in 2006.
He also shares three kids with Grimes. They welcomed X Æ A-Xii (pronounced X Ash Archangel Twelve) in 2020, Exa Dark Sideræl via surrogate in 2021, and Techno “Tau” Mechanicus in 2023. Tau was deemed a “secret” by the public after his birth was only discovered via Walter Isaacson’s biography, Elon Musk .
Musk also “secretly” (though, again, he might take issue with that word) welcomed twins Strider and Azure with Zilis in 2021 — just one month after Exa was born.
Though Musk and Wilson share custody of their five kids, his battle with Grimes is undecided and messy. Musk came under fire last year after he reportedly evaded being served custody papers by Grimes’ legal team more than a dozen times in multiple locations across the country. As of last week, Musk and Grimes still haven’t reached a custody agreement as they fight to establish which state the case should even be heard in.
