Whether or not you believe in ghosts or past lives or anything that could be classified as "supernatural," you have to admit that toddlers often seem to have a sort of sixth sense. Whether it's an imaginary friend who seems a bit too real or an oddly vivid "memory" of something that never happened (in this lifetime, anyway), it's not uncommon for little kids to display signs of an awareness that's beyond anything we can understand.

In a video posted on June 23, a toddler girl is sitting in her highchair eating breakfast, but she's not alone. In one hand, she's holding something very special to her...a photo of her grandpa. According to her mom, she's always been attached to the picture — she even tries feeding some blueberries to her one-dimensional grandfather. You'd think grandpa was somebody she spent a lot of time with, but here's the catch...he actually passed away almost 10 years before she was born.

"My sweet baby. She is my whole world. I would give anything to have my dad back just so I could watch him as 'papa.' He would be so in love with his granddaughter," wrote @scr3amqueen . Videos like this one really do make you think! Commenters were touched by the toddler and grandfather's very special bond .

"She knows him well," wrote Deni.

"He's there with her even though you can't see him," wrote Lizzie.

"She knows him because he was with her before she was born," wrote LadybugMindyDee.

Showing your child photos of a loved one who passed before they were born is definitely a great way to help them get to know their ancestors, and to share the love that lives on forever!

How to Keep a Grandparent's Memory Alive for Your Toddler

Simply telling stories about a grandparent or any loved one who's passed away is one of the most important things you can do to preserve their memory for your kids, according to The Everymom.

"Family stories, with their textures and details (and maybe even their punch lines), can give kids a real glimpse into not only the family facts but showcase the family personalities. Share memories when they hit, and if you’re extra motivated, capture your favorite stories somewhere — record a retelling at the next family gathering, write it in a journal, or capture it in a Google doc. When your kids are really little, you can call out things your child has in common with the loved one you’ve lost to build their connection with them. Start small like, 'You know who also loved chocolate donuts ? Your papa.'"

To create a tangible record for your child, you can even try making a memory book with photos.

"If you want to share memories of a person they’ve never met, try a simple family-tree-style summary. You could add a childhood photo of a relative on the left-hand page, introducing the person – 'This is Judy' – and then added one grown-up photo of that relative on the right-hand page: 'Judy grew up to be your grandmother.' It’s a simple story but a special artifact."

You never know how meaningful these keepsakes will turn out to be for your child...and for you!
