Breaking news: Princess Anne has been hospitalized following an incident that occurred on the Gatcombe Park estate (where she currently resides with her family) over the weekend. Fortunately, she is “expected to make full and swift recovery.”

Earlier this morning, Buckingham Palace released a statement on the official royal family website that read: “The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.”

The statement goes on to say that Princess Anne’s older brother, King Charles (who is currently undergoing medical treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer ), has been “kept closely informed” about his sister’s condition and joins other members of the royal family in “sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery.”

According to People , the Princess Royal, 73, had “sustained minor wounds” to the head after walking through Gatbombe Park. She was later transported to the hospital for treatment. Though the exact cause of her injuries has not been revealed, it’s been speculated that she suffered a “potential impact” from a horse’s head or legs. Furthermore, her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, and her two children, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips, were said to be on the estate at the time of the incident.

Following her hospitalization, a spokesman from Buckingham Palace revealed that Princess Anne would have to miss a few scheduled engagements, saying, “On doctors’ advice, Her Royal Highness’s engagements for the week ahead will be postponed. Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”

The Princess Royal rode on horseback during this year’s Trooping the Colour. In the middle of the parade, she experienced a public mishap when her horse became restless and fell behind. However, she was able to regain control without drawing too much attention to herself.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Princess Anne.
