    UPDATE: Escambia County firefighter dies in Santa Rosa County crash

    UPDATE (11:40 p.m.): News 5 is continuing to gather information about a single-vehicle crash that killed a 27-year-old man.

    According to officials with Escambia County Public Safety, the victim in the crash was a career firefighter with Escambia County Fire Rescue .

    He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Jay Volunteer Fire Department.

    SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — The Florida Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a Jay man.

    According to a crash report, the 27-year-old was driving his 2016 Ford F-150 southbound on SR-87 and was approaching the intersection with CR-87A when “for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway.”

    The report said the vehicle hit a drainage ditch and utility pole, killing the man, who was the only occupant in the vehicle.

    The crash happened on Saturday, June 22, around 2:30 a.m.
