Inside Out 2 is Currently Highest Grossing Movie of 2024

Inside Out 2 was always going to be a hit, but it’s doing even better than most people expected.

Pixar’s sequel to the 2015 animated classic about a young girl dealing with the emotions inside her head managed a massive $100 million in its second weekend of release.

That’s on top of its $154 million debut, meaning a decline of just 35% in sales. It's a sensational hold, even for the biggest blockbusters. This has resulted in the best ever second weekend for an animated film, and the seventh-biggest in movie history.

By comparison, the first Inside Out movie earned $90 million in its opening weekend. Its sequel actually made more in its second weekend than the original made in its first. Here's the unlikely film that inspired Inside Out 2 .

The film is on track to make a billion dollars globally, putting it in elite company. It’s already made more than Dune: Part II , which generated $282 million domestically and $711 million worldwide.

So far, Inside Out 2 has grossed $355 million domestically and $724 million globally. It’s the biggest movie of 2024 by quite a margin. The film’s success suggests we’re in for an Inside Out trilogy featuring an older Riley.

The Summer’s not over, however. Still heading for cinemas is A Quiet Place: Day One (June 28), Despicable Me 4 (July 3) and Deadpool and Wolverine (July 26), although they’ll have their work cut out for them if they want to beat Inside Out 2 .
