The moment when your older child meets their newborn sibling is one you'll never forget — whether or not the introduction goes the way you planned! While all parents hope that their firstborn will bond with the new baby right away, the truth is that the reality of a baby brother or sister can be pretty overwhelming for some kids. On the other hand, you just might get the picture-perfect family moment of your dreams!

In one super sweet video, a 2.5-year-old girl is meeting her new baby sister for the very first time, and her reaction couldn't be sweeter. As mom wipes happy tears away, the toddler marvels at the sight of the baby and how "tiny" she is...and she's especially delighted to see what's underneath her hat!

"Oh this moment was too special tbh," wrote @the_hollisters . Considering the fact that some kids this age would throw a tantrum or even pinch or hit the new baby, these parents couldn't have asked for anything more from their big girl ! Of course, as commenters pointed out, mom and dad have clearly raised her right so far.

"She talks to sissy like you talk to her. She's learning from the best!" wrote Lori Szymanski.

"I bet she's a total reflection of Mom and Dad. She's the sweetest," wrote MA235L.

"Mom's heart is exploding...good job keeping it together mom," wrote taraannjames.

This little girl might not always be so enchanted by her baby sister , but this looks like the beginning of a lifelong friendship for sure.

Tips for Introducing Your Toddler to the New Baby

Whether first child is meeting their new sibling at the hospital or home, you might want to consider having your arms free the first time you see your big kid after giving birth, according to The Everymom. Even though the mom in this video is holding her newborn and that clearly worked out fine, having your baby in their car seat, a bassinet, or lying on a blanket makes for a "more neutral introduction."

It's also important to "keep your expectations in check," because you never really know how a toddler will process this life-changing moment.

"It would be lovely for your older child to welcome the new baby with open arms and excitement, but it’s important to understand that might not happen immediately. It’s perfectly normal for your older child to not understand who this new little baby is and to not be excited about it. Don’t force anything and let them explore and ask questions and even leave the room to go do something else if they’d prefer. It’s very common for the older child to not want to hold the baby initially, this will come with time."

If you can, give your toddler a giant hug and some individual attention when you first greet them, before launching into baby stuff (since you probably just spent a day or two apart). Remember, your "big" kid has an even bigger adjustment to make, and they need all the affection and reassurance they can get!
