HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — A Hancock County man was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Thursday after being convicted of possession of child pornography.

Brandon Douglas Nelson was found guilty of five counts of possession of child pornography following an investigation from the Indiana State Police that began in 2022.

“Our office worked extremely hard on this case to ensure ample prosecution and punishment for the defendant,” said Prosecutor Brent Eaton. “Thank you to the Indiana State Police for their thorough investigation and evidence collection. We also are very appreciative that the Zero Abuse Project partnered with us for this sentencing.”

According to a press release from Parker Public Affairs, detectives received tips on Nelson from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. After multiple warrants, subpoenas, and months of a comprehensive investigation, the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office filed the case in December 2023.

“With each image or video depicting child sexual abuse, we must remember there is a name, an identify, and a life of a real child attached to each file,” said Derek Cress, Zero Abuse Project representative.

Nelson was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Correction to serve 10 years with five years suspended on sex offender specific probation. Douglas will be a registered sex offender for life.
