    Harrison County Sheriff’s Office hires first female deputy

    CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The county’s first-ever female law enforcement deputy has been hired by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

    According to a press release, the department has hired Kaleigh Wetzel, who previously worked in Lewis County. She is already certified and will begin work, immediately, the release said.

    “I am excited with the way our Agency is headed and look forward to the impact they will make upon the completion of our Field Training Program,” Sheriff Robert Matheny said in the release.

    Wetzel, along with another new deputy—Roger King from the City of Dunbar, will be sworn in at the sheriff’s office Law Enforcement Headquarters in Clarksburg on Tuesday, June 25 at 11 a.m. Members of the community are welcome.

    Within the past fear years, several area departments have hired its first women in law enforcement positions. Shinnston Police Department hired its first female law enforcement last year , in Monongalia County the Star City Police Department and West Virginia University Police Department named their first female chiefs of police in 2022 and 2021.
