Tree Removal Sends Unsuspecting Raccoon Flying Through The Air

For those that don't understand why cutting down trees can have a negative effect on nature, look no further than this video. The impact of taking away animal habitats isn't usually this blatant. In fact, this is the first video I've ever seen of a wild animal being directly (and immediately) impacted by a tree removal. It looks as though the large tree was dead anyway, or at least had seen better days. Though it might not have been alive itself, there was still something very much alive calling it home. When the tree removal service came to take it down, they must have forgotten to make sure the coast was clear... on the inside of the trunk. They clearly knew how to fell a tree, and controlled it so that it fell away from the fence on the property. Due diligence was done in other areas, just not in the "should we check to see if something lives in the tree" department. As the tree tumbled down to the ground (feel free to yell "TIMBER" if it feels instinctual), the tree removal workers sat back to watch something they've seen 1,000 times before. Only this time, something happened that they had probably never witnessed. The falling tree acted as a catapult for a raccoon that was still inside. Check it out: Who knew that raccoons could FLY? Though it was quite the scary couple of seconds for the raccoon, it appears that it escaped without a major injury... and I don't really know how to be honest. It landed with quite the hard thud, looked around frantically (as it rightfully should have), and then fled the scene. I'm sure it was a learning experience for both parties. The tree removal workers are probably a little more careful checking the trees they cut down now, and I guarantee that raccoon settled into a home that... well, let's just say not a tree.
