Having a puppy means accepting your house is no longer only yours. It's now their kingdom and we're just living in it. One adorable Golden Retriever pup named Honey Bear decided she's had it with the current coffee table situation, so she's doing something about it.

A June 21, 2024 TikTok video shared by Honey Bear ( @honeysgoldenhour ) shows the Golden making the table her own so she can settle in for a nap. See her new bed below!

"When Mom has to tell anyone who comes over that her Golden Retriever is in their 'teenage phase,'" the clip says as it shows the young Golden determined to make the coffee table her new sleep space.

"Who needs table decor when you have a naughty golden retriever?" the caption reads as Honey Bear rearranges the table to her liking for an afternoon siesta.

"Best table decor ever!" one person wrote. "She needs her space… duh," another joked. Many others shared similar shenanigans from their Goldens saying the "teenager phase" never really goes away.

"Umm 6 years later and I’ve just given into the coffee table bed," another person said in solidarity. "My doggy is in the same stage. I am exhausted!" another said. "does it end though?" another added.

How To Navigate the Dreaded 'Teenager Phase'

While absolutely adorable, puppies aged 6-24 months can be somewhat of a menace as their hormones and brain growth surge toward adulthood (just like human teens!). During this time, the RSPCA says they might appear to be "less obedient," but they're actually gaining more energy to explore and test their limits.

This is great until you tell them they can't have or do something. Their lack of impulse control and desire to continue exploring might make them frustrated and can lead to "barking, jumping up, scratching, nipping, biting the lead and even aggression."

To prevent the annoying behaviors in the first place, the org says to redirect their energy towards structured play with games and dedicated exercise. Keeping them stimulated regularly and distracting/removing them from high-stress situations will lessen their teenage reactions over time.

Puppies are a lot of work . And, just like children, they require patience and consistency to help ease them out of their "teenage phase." If you've got a Honey Bear on your hands, nipping the action in the bud now will save a lot of frustration later (no matter how cute the behavior is).
