Human bones brought into SC Goodwill leads to discovery of skeletal remains in woods

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — The Anderson County Coroner’s Office is searching a wooded area for skeletal remains.
It all began when someone brought human bones into Goodwill. The coroner’s office said another person at the store saw the remains and notified Anderson City Police Saturday night.
“That’s where the investigation started. Someone seeing the bones at the Goodwill and that led the police to find the person who found them and that led us to scene,” Coroner Greg Shore explained. “The police department notified our office, so we looked at the bones that were recovered and they are human.”
The coroner’s office said the bones were discovered in a wooded area near Belvedere Plaza and Graylyn Drive.
When investigators started searching the area, they uncovered more skeletal remains.
“We went back to the location where the citizens found the bones and we found more bones that are connected to an individual,” Shore added. “They are scattered, and we’ve only located about 25 bones, so the human body has more than 200 so we are missing quite a bit of the remains.”
The coroner’s office confirmed they are using what resources they do have to try and identify the remains.
“It is tough. We did recover a jawbone and a couple of teeth but neither the teeth have any dental work that appears to be done. We will most likely send the bones to SLED or the FBI to find a relative that might be related to this individual,” Shore said. “We are also looking at our missing person list, the police department and the sheriff’s office.”
The coroner’s office said investigators will be expanding their search of the area and bringing in cadaver dogs.
Officials are asking the public stay away from the area as the investigation continues.
