According to court documents, Shelby County E911 received a call claiming that someone had been shot in the Cropper area. When deputies arrived, 32-year-old Michael Hunt said that someone had been shot near the Baptist church but nothing was found. That’s when deputies returned and Hunt said that the victims were inside his home.

Deputies report that a woman’s body was found on the first floor of his home with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. A second woman was found upstairs, also with an apparent gunshot wound to the head, but still alive.

According to FOX 56’s sister station, WDRB , Michael’s 33-year-old wife Emily was taken to a Louisville hospital in critical condition, where she later died. Her mother, 56-year-old Beth Simmons, was pronounced deceased on the scene.

An arrest citation states that Hunt had blood on his clothing, was arrested, and was taken to the sheriff’s office for questioning. There he was advised of his rights and agreed to speak to an investigator, in which he allegedly claimed that “he had a job to take both females out” and had shot both of them in the head.

Hunt was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. He was lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center and is due to be arraigned on Tuesday.
