Outdoor pests got you down? Is something creepy crawly (or slimy slimy) getting to enjoy all the veggies you've been tending to in  your garden before you do? Do you see nothing but yellow leaves and unhappy veggies when you go to check your greens? Well, that likely means that you have something else noshing on your plants before you get a chance to.

One common way to deal with this problem is a decadent called diatomaceous earth, or DE for short. It's a popular treatment for home gardens because bugs don't even have to ingest it in order for it to work. Instead, they just have to come into contact with the powder, which can dry them out.

Continue reading to learn more about DE, including how one home gardener makes applying it in his garden a total breeze!

Before we get into the brilliance of @5tolifestudios' DE applicator, we want to explain a bit more about how the substance works. Not only can it dry some bugs out, killing them, but it can also make it downright uncomfortable for some other bugs to even try and get to your veggies, making it a great addition to the garden.

That being said, you do need to know that DE doesn't know the difference between the bugs you want and the bugs you don't want , so you run the risk of keeping pollinators away as well, which can hurt the production of your garden.

Additionally, if you're applying DE the way the OP did, you're going to need proper protective gear, which means covering your eyes, mouth, and nose, so you don't actually get any of the painful product in your eyes or breath it in.

Of course, you can always opt to use a more natural form of pest control instead. Not only is this method a bit less hard on you, but it can also be more targeted towards certain bugs that would make short work of your garden.

In ideas that sound just crazy enough to work, one woman shared how she makes a mix of green onion juice that she uses to coat her garden. Not only does she say that the pungent smell keep the slugs away , it seems to have a positive effect on the plants she's growing as well!

Just look at how happy everything in her garden looks!

Protect Yourself from Accidental DE exposure

If you're dead set on using the OP's method, then we suggest you take the proper precautions and do so knowing full well that you may end up with fewer visitors to your garden this year, which may means smaller harvests of tomatoes and cucumbers!
