Lyon County government warning of fraudulent postcards

LYON COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — The Lyon County government is warning the public of fraudulent postcards.

According to the Lyon County government , on Monday the Register of Deeds Office was assisting a resident with questions regarding the following postcard they received:

The Lyon County government says the postcard was not sent by the Register of Deeds Office or anyone associated with the county.

The Better Business Bureau has 10 steps on how to avoid scams:

1. Never send money via gift card or wire transfer to someone you have never met face-to-face
2. Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments in unsolicited emails
3. Don’t believe everything you see
4. Double-check that your online purchase is secure
5. Use extreme caution when dealing with anyone you’ve met online
6. Never share personally identifiable information
7. Resist the pressure to act immediately
8. Use secure and traceable transactions
9. Whenever possible, work with local businesses
10. Be cautious about what you share on social media

Going to the source and asking for help is another tip from the BBB. The person who received the fraudulent postcard was smart in doing so and saved themself from possibly getting scammed.
