Meryl Streep's daughter, Louisa Jacobson Gummer, proudly came out as a lesbian during her mom's birthday celebrations.

Louisa, the child of Meryl and her separated hubby Don Gummer , took to Instagram with a heartfelt reveal of her love life, sharing snaps with her partner, producer Anna Blundell. She captioned the post with an enthusiastic nod to a "joyful new era of lesbian fashion," declaring: "blessed to be entering the Joyful New Era bb."

The announcement was met with cheers in the comment section, with one fan exclaiming, "COMING OUT AT YOUR MOM'S BIRTHDAY IS SO ICONIC."

The vibe was electric with support, as another chimed in with a playful, "Glad my 'gay detects gay' abilities haven't failed me yet. Happy Pride to us all."

Celebs didn't hold back their encouragement either. "Queer Eye" star Tan France dropped a series of clapping emojis, while Ella Hunt cheered on with: "absodamnlutely! ! ! ! ".

The sapphic community celebrated what they saw as a victory, with comments like "The lesbians stay winning! happy pride! " and "Omg no way. A win for the girls all the way omg omggg."

Meryl herself has been a vocal supporter of LGBTQ+ rights. In a 2016 interview with Pride Source, she shared her lifelong connection with the community, stating, "I just can't remember when LGBT people were not in my life.

"You know, gosh. My piano teachers when I was 11 and 12 were two gay men in a little town in New Jersey who had a collection of Mexican art and pinatas and silver lantern covers, and their house was wonderful, not like anybody else's house in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. And yeah, I came of age when everything was kind of opening up and that's a good time, right like now."

At the 2017 HRC Greater New York Gala, Meryl was honoured with the Ally for Equality Award by the Human Rights Campaign. Chad Griffin, HRC President, admired Meryl by saying: "Throughout her phenomenal career, Meryl Streep has used her voice to stand up for the LGBTQ community. Whether through her iconic roles that raised the visibility of LGBTQ people, or by boldly speaking out for equality, Meryl Streep embodies the very nature of what it means to be an ally to our community."
