For the first time in their history, the Florida Panthers are Stanley Cup champions.

The Panthers emerged victorious from Monday’s Game 7 against the Edmonton Oilers, beating the Canadian team 2-1 to become the NHL’s reigning champs. Monday’s triumph marks the Panthers’ first-ever Stanley Cup win since the team was founded in 1993.

Watch video of the Panthers’ win and celebration below:

Monday’s face-off between the Panthers and Oilers brought this year’s Stanley Cup Final to a nail-biter of a conclusion. After the Panthers beat the Oilers in the first three games of this best-of-seven series (and were seemingly poised to win the Cup in a four-game sweep), the Oilers then came back to win the next three consecutive games, forcing a Game 7 at Florida’s Amerant Bank Arena.

Had the Oilers won Game 7 (and the Cup), they would have been only the second team in NHL history to come back from a three-game deficit in the Stanley Cup Final. (The Toronto Maple Leafs previously pulled that off against the Detroit Red Wings, way back in 1942.)

Are you happy with Monday’s outcome, hockey fans? Or were you rooting for Edmonton to pull off the reverse sweep? Tell us below!
