Where you can see Fourth of July fireworks in Maine this year

Next Thursday marks the 248th anniversary of the first Independence Day, when the Declaration of Independence was announced. The occasion will be marked with some of the summer’s best and brightest fireworks shows.

Here’s where you can plan to go to watch the celebrations in Maine.

Augusta

Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. and are best viewed from Mill Park. The parade begins from the State Capitol at 10 a.m.

Bangor/Brewer

Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. and are viewable from the Bangor and Brewer waterfront areas. The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Acme Road in Brewer and ends at West Market Square in Bangor. This year’s “Chords for Cure” free concert takes place at the Bangor Waterfront and will feature performances from Aroostook County band Marionette at 5:30 p.m., and Rolling Stones cover band The Stone Doctors at 7:15 p.m.

The 43rd Annual Walter Hunt 4th of July 3K Road Race will start on Acme Road at 9:30 a.m., just before the Bangor-Brewer parade.

Bar Harbor

Fireworks over Frenchman Bay begin at 9:15 p.m. and are viewable from the waterfront in downtown Bar Harbor. Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Main Street, ending at Ledgelawn Avenue. The Bar Harbor Rotary Club is hosting the Fourth of July Seafood Festival and cookout at the Bar Harbor Athletic Field on Park Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Live music will be played throughout the afternoon at Agamont Park until 9.m.

Bath

Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. over the Kennebec River and are viewable from Waterfront Park. The 50th annual Heritage Days Independence Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. and will travel Lincoln, Centre, and Front streets. A 1-mile fun run and a 5-mile race will start at Bath City Hall at 6:15 a.m. The city will hold a number of events through the weekend in celebration of Heritage Days.

Clinton

Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at Tradewinds Market. On Wednesday, country music artist Darryl Worley will play at the Clinton Fairgrounds at 8 p.m. The fairgrounds will open at noon on both Wednesday, July 3 and Thursday the Fourth.

Eastport

Fireworks begin at dusk at the waterfront. The Grand Independence Day Parade starts at 2 p.m. The USS Forrest Sherman will be docking at the Eastport pier on Wednesday, July 3 and on the Fourth.

Freeport

Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. and are viewable from Discovery Park. Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Main Street. Other events include the L.L. Bean 10K Road Race and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk, and a free concert featuring 12/OC at 7:30 p.m.

Greenville

Fireworks begin at dusk on Wednesday, July 3 in East Cove over Moosehead Lake. Greenville’s parade will take place on the Fourth, starting at 11 a.m. at Greenville Junction.

Houlton

Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. on the Waterfront on Wednesday, July 3. Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Catholic Church on Main Street, and ends at Military Street.

Lewiston/Auburn

Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. and are viewable from both sides of the river. Lewiston will host live music at Veterans Park starting at 5 p.m. Festivities in Auburn will start at 6 p.m. at Great Falls Plaza, with dancing and karaoke. Events will continue through the weekend as part of the 2024 Liberty Festival.

Limestone

Fireworks begin at dusk on Wednesday, July 3 over Limestone Pond. A parade will start at 1 p.m. on the Fourth, starting at the junction of Main and High streets.

Millinocket

Fireworks will be held at dusk on Friday, July 5. Parade begins at 10 a.m. on the Fourth at Northern Shopping Plaza, concluding on Penobscot Avenue. Children’s parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Bangor Savings Bank. Vendors will be set up and music will be played at Veterans Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.

Naples

Naples’ fireworks show will take place over the Causeway at 9:20 p.m. Parade begins at 2 p.m. at the Naples Town Office and will continue through Naples Causeway.

Old Orchard Beach

Fireworks begin at 9:45 p.m. and are viewable from the Pier and Palace Playland on the beach. Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Bell Tower on Temple Avenue, and the 195th Army National Guard Band will be playing at the Seaside Pavillion at 7 p.m.

Portland

Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. at the Eastern Prom. Fireworks will be viewable from the Prom, East End Beach, Fort Allen Park, Amethyst Park, Baxter Boulevard, Payson Park, Martin’s Point on Veranda Street and Bug Light in South Portland. A performance by the Casco Bay Wind Symphony will start at 7 p.m.

Rangeley

Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 and will be shot off from the Town Park. The Doll Carriage Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Rangeley Inn & Tavern and ends at the Town Park

Sanford

Fireworks begin at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3. A block party will be held at Number One pond from 4 p.m. until the fireworks show. Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Main and Stilson streets on the Fourth.

Thomaston

Fireworks will start at dusk on the Fourth behind the block on Valley Street. Parade starts at 11 a.m. on Main Street. Live music will be played throughout the afternoon.

York

Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. at Short Sands Beach.
