    Washington Co., Va. Planning Commission denies permit for Wolf Hills Solar Project

    ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) — The Washington Co., Va. Planning Commission hosted a public hearing Monday regarding a permit application submitted by Catalyst Energy to develop its Wolf Hills Solar Project in the county.

    The 1,800 to 2,200-acre solar energy project has been in discussion for months, with area residents gathering at several meetings to discuss their opposition to the project .

    List of public’s top concerns provided by Catalyst Energy during planning commission meeting Monday evening.

    The planning commission highlighted a recent traffic analysis that was conducted, the environmental impact the project would have and the area of the proposed land that butts against a residential neighborhood.

    After hearing public comment, the planning commission ultimately voted to not approve the permit.

    A portion of the proposal that specifies which roads contain parcels of land slated for the project can be found below:

    Request for a Special Exception Permit for a Large Scale Solar Energy Project on approximately 1,900 acres of property located on State Route 645 (Wyndale Road) and (Wallace Pike), State Route 662 (Spring Valley Road), State Route 614 (Childress Hollow Road), State Route 804 (Rust Hollow Road), State Route 657 (Reedy Creek Road), State Route 1717 (Industrial Park Road) and State Route 625 (Bordwine Road)

    The next meeting in front of the Board of Supervisors is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on July 9.
