Freaky Friday 2: Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis on Set of New Sequel

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis surprised fans by revealing that production has officially commenced on the sequel to their 2003 cult classic, Freaky Friday .

The two stars return to reprise their roles as the mother/daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman, and they're not the only familiar faces fans can expect to see.

Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao will also return, with new cast members Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan also joining.

Mark Waters, who went on to bring us Mean Girls , directed the first instalment, but this time around Emmy-nominated Nisha Ganatra will serve as director, with Kristin Burr, Andrew Gunn, and Jamie Lee Curtis serving as producers and Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin, and Lindsay Lohan as executive producers.

The official synopsis for the sequel reveals:

A sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist, the film picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.

Lohan and Curtis were pictured soaking up the joy of their reunion on set, where cameras are officially rolling.

The sequel will hit theaters in 2025.
