A desperate search is underway for an American tourist who vanished in Spain after traveling to Barcelona to attend Pride festival.

31-year-old Ryan Anthony was on holiday with his friends in Barcelona when they decided to travel to the Spanish coast to attend an LGTBQ pride festival in the town of Sitges.

However, according to worried family members, their last contact with Ryan was when he contacted them to say he was heading down to the festival.

Kayli Anthony Willis, Anthony's sister, wrote on social media: "The last message he sent me he was in Sitges for Pride festival with some friends. It is not like him to not check in with any of his family, and all our calls and texts are not delivering."

She attached two photos of him which included him with four other men at a beach. When Kayli messaged two of the men in the picture neither replied, she said.

'We have filed a report with the US embassy in Barcelona and also here in the United States, " Kayli wrote. "If anyone has come in contact recently or knows where he is, PLEASE message me or notify the US embassy. We would like to know he’s safe and alive. Thank you."

According to Kayli, one of the men in the picture posted on social media last week. However, there haven't been any leads or updates on her brother's whereabouts. His credit cards have appeared to have gone unused, she was told by cops. '"Please keeps sharing and keep him in your thoughts," she wrote on Facebook.

The disappearance comes as 59-year-old ex-cop Albert Calibet remains missing in Greece after embarking on a solo hike on the Greek island of Amorgos.

According to Greek media, the ex-policeman departed from the port settlement of Aegiali, located on the north west of the island, shortly after 7am last Tuesday.

It's believed he was en route to Katapola, the island's primary port situated on the west side. The trek should take approximately four hours from his starting point, but when he failed to return after eight hours, a worried friend reported him missing.

A search operation was initiated on Tuesday afternoon with additional support summoned from Naxos island. Police have also sought data from mobile service providers in an attempt to pinpoint the man's last known whereabouts. Authorities have been unable to reach Calibet via either of his two mobile phones.

Local media reports suggest that the final message he sent was a picture of a trail sign to his sister. A rescue mission has since been mobilised, with extra help arriving from the neighboring Naxos island.
