    Escambia County cooperative library system’s Books-By-Mail program awarded literacy grant

    The Escambia County Cooperative Library System’s Books-By-Mail program recently was awarded a $3,000 Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant, according to officials.

    Director Geri Albritton said the grant program supports organizations, schools and libraries who meet certain criteria, including targets Pre-K through 12 th grade students are who are new readers; below grade level readers; or assists readers with learning disabilities.

    Albritton said the awards were announced May 23.

    “Since that time, we have purchased several hundred new books for our children and young adults,” Albritton said. “We worked quickly to make sure the new books were processed and ready for checkout in time for this year’s Books-By-Mail Summer Reading program. Our new books are now on the shelves and our program is in full swing.”

    Albritton said it’s never too late to register for the free Books-By-Mail program.
