Congratulations are in order for Mindy Kaling! The 45-year-old actress, writer, and producer shocked fans this week when she announced the arrival of her third child, a baby girl named Anne, who was born in February.
On June 24, Kaling posted an adorable photo of her three children to Instagram. In the pic, baby Anne is in the middle of Katherine (or "Kit") 6, and son Spencer, 3, and all three kids are lying on a blanket in the grass, facing away from the camera (Kaling doesn't show her children's faces on social media). Kaling also shared a photo of herself with a baby bump and another snap of her in a hospital bed with her two older kids.

This isn't the first time Kaling kept a pregnancy and birth under wraps. Her pregnancy with Kit was a secret until a few months before she was born, and she waited until after Spencer's birth to tell the world about him. She's also never publicly revealed the identity of her children's father; however, fellow Office alum B.J. Novak is godfather to Kit and Spencer.
What Do We Know About Mindy Kaling's Children?
When it comes to choosing names, Kaling told People that she prefers to go the "classic" route. Her daughter’s name is a tribute to Katharine Hepburn , for example, while son Spencer is named after actor Spencer Tracy.
“I just tried to pick classic names that felt like they would have to work really hard to get mad at me about later,” Kaling said.
Kit's name might be old school, but she's got plenty in common with kids today — like an obsession with Taylor Swift ! As TODAY reported, in August 2023, Kaling and her daughter caught the Eras tour in Inglewood, California (Kit's first-ever concert).
“She swapped friendship bracelets all night and got to hear her favorite Taylor song live, ‘Cruel Summer!’ It was such a magical night ,” Kaling wrote in a post at the time.
According to Kaling, Kit is also "very interested in order and structure."
“'She’s Type A in that way, and I really like that about her,' she said. She also said her daughter likes stories about 'dramatic situations' and 'people fighting against injustice.'"
Spencer, meanwhile, has a special nickname that mom picked out for him, but she's having a hard time making it stick.
“'Spike is something we’re trying to get going. People tend to call him Spence or Spencey, but I prefer Spike,' she said. Kaling added, 'The problem is…he’s not a Spike. He’s one of the sweetest little boys and Spike has the connotations of kind of like a punky energy.'"
Both kids sound pretty sweet, especially since Kaling said they call each other their "best friends." We don't know much about baby Anne yet, but one thing we can say for sure is that her big brother and sister are pretty awesome!
