Severe thunderstorms have left over 160,000 homes and businesses across Michigan without power Tuesday morning, and the forecast shows no signs of the weather letting up.

According to the National Weather Service , a line of storms is expected to mainly impact the area along and west of Interstate 75 and possibly bring damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph, heavy rainfall, lightning, hail and flooding.

The storms were forecast to move through southeast Michigan around 7 a.m. local time and are expected to taper off around noon, but another round of storms is possible this evening, although "the chances appear low," according to the NWS in Detroit.

The NWS also said dangerous waves and currents are expected Tuesday in Lake Michigan and urged people to stay out of the water and to not go onto piers through Tuesday evening.
