    Wilkes County WWII Veteran Evan ‘Duck’ Moore dies at 107

    WASHINGTON, Ga. (WJBF) – The oldest living veteran in Wilkes County has died.

    107-year-old Evan ‘Duck’ Moore reportedly passed away in his sleep on June 20.

    Moore was born February 14, 1917, in Washington, the seventh of eight sons.

    In 2017, Moore was recognized in Atlanta with a proclamation read and signed by then Governor Nathan Deal.

    Last year on his 106th birthday , he shared with WJBF that his secret to a long life was his Father in Heaven, a nip of alcoholic beverages and a cup of coffee every morning. In recent years, Moore enjoyed dancing, and working with his hands in his garden and on his tractor.

    This week, Wilkes County Emergency Services placed their flags at half staff in his honor.
