Macadamia nuts have been recalled over Listeria concerns.

Another recall has been issued for a popular food product and people just don't know what to think anymore. There are ongoing food recalls for many reasons, including undeclared allergens, Salmonella, foreign objects found in food, and more, and this latest one just adds to the growing list of concerns.

Andersen & Sons Shelling, Inc. is recalling dry roasted macadamia nuts because of Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

According to the details posted online by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall was initiated on May 16, 2024, and is ongoing.

    What We Know

The recalled product was distributed nationally in the U.S.

The recalled product is Andersen & Sons Shelling, Inc. Macadamia Nuts, Dry Roasted Style 6 25-pounds. The company is recalling 2,850 pounds of the nuts. The lot code for the product is 26950-1-2-1 and it has an expiration date of 4/12/2025.

Consumers should not use this product. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to their place of purchase.

    What is Listeria?

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause serious and sometimes life-threatening infections. Anyone who has eaten the recalled products and developed symptoms of Listeria infection should seek medical treatment and tell their doctors about possible Listeria exposure.

If you have consumed the recalled products, monitor your health during the coming weeks because it can take up to 70 days after exposure to Listeria for symptoms to develop.

Symptoms of Listeria infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness.

Pregnant women, the elderly, young children, and people who have weakened immune systems are particularly at risk of serious illnesses, life-threatening infections, other complications, and death.

    Other Recalls To Know About

Right now, there are hundreds of products impacted by open and ongoing recalls.

For example, millions of pounds of chocolate and confectioners products are being recalled due to salmonella concerns. Right now, hundreds of products are being recalled because of Salmonella, including cucumbers that have sickened hundreds and sent more than 70 people to the hospital.

Dozens of coffee products are also being recalled right now due to fears of botulism poisoning. While no illnesses have been reported, the voluntary recall is ongoing and includes all coffee products produced by Snapchill.

Vitamix recalled more than 570, 000 blenders due to reports of lacerations when using the product. That recall has been ongoing since 2018 but was reissued when more injuries were reported.
