Kevin Costner’s Son Is Following in His Footsteps! See What Hayes Costner Has Said About His Dad

The world has spent months speculating what Kevin Costner’s next move will be, but with his Yellowstone exit confirmed, it looks like his primary focus will be his three part Western film series, the first installment premiering on June 28. While Yellowstone was and always will be a project near and dear to his heart, his latest venture is a bit more personal — after all, one of his co-stars is his own son, 15-year-old Hayes Costner.
Costner’s new film, Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 is a passion project that chronicles the gradual exploration and settlement of the American West in the wake of the Civil War. The movie features a star studded cast including Kevin himself, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and more. However, Hayes’ experience as Kevin’s son gave him a unique edge when approaching this film, and his quotes about his dad are sweet and inspiring.
What has Hayes Costner said about working with his dad, Kevin Costner?
The son of Kevin and ex-wife Christine Baumgartner, Hayes joked with Entertainment Tonight about his role in the movie, saying, “ He trapped me .”
"I got to spend the whole day with him every day and just see him work…I had such a blast." The young actor continued, "I just thought it was really cool and it was an amazing experience.”
As for his father’s point of view, Kevin joked that he did, indeed, trap his young son.
“I figured out how to have him close. He's never going to look this young, he's never going to look this sweet and handsome. He's just going to grow into a young man and he's really good in the film."
Kevin Costner talks about having his kids be apart of the film business
Kevin recently shared with The Today Show the origin of his decision to cast his own son in the film.
“ I have not shoved my children into the business ,” he said. “I realize there’s so many young actors that would just kill to be in this movie and I don’t want to take those parts away from them just ‘cause I can place my own children in. But in this instance, it was a smaller part. I selfishly wanted him with me for the week, two weeks he was with me.”
“ I owe the fans the best movie I can make ,” Kevin told The Hollywood Reporter . “If I give up movies and don’t want to make anymore, that’s my business. But if I choose to make movies, I have the fans right on my shoulder. And not to cater to them, but to kind of take them in a direction maybe they didn’t even think something could possibly go so. I make [movies] for people. It’s not my movie anymore, it’s the fans’ that have supported me. It’s for them.”
We can’t wait to see what the actor has in store for us in these upcoming films, and we look forward to seeing him and his son side by side on the screen!
