Included in the top 100 baby names given to lads born in the US last year were some names that hail from Ireland. That's not too surprising, considering the massive number of Irish folk who have emigrated to America since the 19th century.
Aiden has consistently been a popular Irish name for lads in the US. It was given to 6,675 baby boys in the US last year and sits at the number 40 spot on the list of the most popular boys' names of 2023.
Aiden, derived from the Irish Aodhan and ultimately from Aodh, translates to 'little fire'.
Nolan
A popular choice originating from Irish surnames, Nolan was given to 5,112 baby boys in the US last year, securing it the number 57 spot. Nolan, meaning 'noble', 'famous', or 'descendant of a chariot fighter', is derived from the surname O'Nullian, once the name of a powerful Irish clan.

Cameron
Surprisingly of Irish/Scottish origins, Cameron comes from the Gaelic 'cam abhainn', meaning 'bent river'. Cameron was the 58th most popular name for baby boys born in the US last year, with a total of 5,069 babies named so in 2023.
Rowan
Rowan is perfect for baby boys born with ginger hair. Derived from the Irish Ruadhan, Rowan means 'little redhead'.
It was the 76th most popular name for baby boys in the US last year, with 4,195 babies being named Rowan.
Ryan
One of the most recognisable names for boys in the US, Ryan was given to 4,020 baby boys last year, placing it at number 83. Ryan, similar to Rian, one of the most popular baby boy names in Ireland, comes from the surname O'Riain and means 'little king'.
Gael
The final Irish name in the top 100 list, was at number 100. Gael was given to 3,616 baby boys in the US last year.
The term Gael can be used to describe someone of Gaelic descent. It's also derived from the Gaelic word Gaidheal, which was traditionally used to refer to strangers or foreigners.
