FDA Recalls Popular Ice Cream Products Due to Concerns of Listeria

It's summer, so you're probably reaching for some sweet, cold ice cream to help keep you cool as temps rise.

But if you have bought ice cream lately, you'll want to make sure it's not on a recall list. The FDA announced the recall of multiple brands of ice cream because they could be contaminated with Listeria.

What We Know

The products were distributed nationwide and they include Friendly’s, Abilyn’s Frozen Bakery, Hershey’s, Yelloh!, Jeni's, Cumberland Farms, The Frozen Farmer, Marco, ChipWich, AMAFruits, Taharka, Dolcezza Gelato, and LaSalle brands.

To date, no illnesses have been reported.

What To Do

Totally Cool has ceased production and distribution of the affected products after FDA sampling uncovered the presence of Listeria. While the company is taking preventive actions, the investigation is ongoing.

Consumers who have the recalled products should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Totally Cool, Inc. at 410-363- 7801 or regulatory@totallycoolicecream.com between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Otherwise healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
