Of all the things Golden Retrievers do, the way they love us tops the list. Just ask Buster who cannot believe his human would ever leave the house without him. It's an absolute travesty and Buster is telling the house about it with no knowledge it was all caught on camera.
On June 24, 2024, @everything_goldens shared the hilarious video of Buster wailing for Mom until—surprise!—he realizes she didn't in fact leave. Watch as the good boy perks right up once she is spotted!
"Will never leave again," the caption reads. In the 33-second clip, a heartbroken Buster wails his little heart out while lounging on a chair. The writing on the video says, "he thought I went for a walk without him," and clearly this Golden boy can't take the betrayal.
As Mom slowly walks down the stairs to pan the camera onto Buster, we see his pain in clear view. With each soulful howl, "watch once he notices me" comes onto the screen. Toward the end, there is a moment Buster sees Mom. The crying stops and his face lights right up as if he realized she never left in the first place.
"That is an AWOO of his ancestors! You give that baby ALL the walks!" one person wrote. "The sweetest most gentle howl I’ve ever heard," another said. "Don’t u ever abandon him like that again," another joked.
Buster is a man of few words but these howls say everything he needed to say.

Why Do Dogs Howl?
It may seem obvious but decoding your dog's howl will help you better understand what they're trying to say. The American Kennel Club says the biggest reason they howl is to express emotions. "Lonely and anxious dogs often howl, maybe as a way to request company or assistance," the site says, adding that dogs with separation anxiety will howl when their owners are away as it is related to fear.
Other reasons they might "sing" out their words could be to get attention, to communicate with other dogs, to let others know they're there, to convey pain or discomfort, or to respond to triggering noises. Some dogs like Huskies are more vocal because their breed is closely genetically related to wolves who howled to communicate. Goldens (like may breeds) have been known to announce their big mood if they're feeling some kind of way and as Buster shows, it's heartbreaking.
Whatever Buster felt when he thought Mom left, we're just glad it was only a drill so the good boy can go for his walk and forget all about the pain.
