    Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office says goodbye to retired K-9

    SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) -The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said goodbye Monday to a retired K-9 officer.

    According to the sheriff’s office, K-9 Sawyer joined the sheriff’s office in 2010 and worked with the narcotics unit at the sheriff’s office.

    Sawyer worked with the sheriff’s office for 10 years, and retired in 2020. While at the sheriff’s office he was credited with finding:

    • 25.5 pounds of cocaine
    • 2.4 pounds of cocaine base(crack)
    • 27.9 pounds of methamphetamine
    • 16.3 pounds of heroin
    • 654.1 pounds of marijuana
    • $385,777 in cash

    Sawyer was also a part of K-9 demonstrations in local schools and businesses before retirement in 2020. His handler was Lt. Joe Pharis.

    “After Sawyer’s retirement he enjoyed a life of being spoiled with endless treats and love. You will be missed buddy,” the sheriff’s office said.
