    Inmate found unresponsive in Washington County Jail

    WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – An inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the Washington County Jail at approximately 7:17 a.m. on June 25, according to a statement that was released from Sheriff Joel Cochran.

    Emergency crews responded to the scene where the inmate was pronounced deceased.

    The inmate, who has not yet been named, was reportedly received from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office for housing June 14.

    The Eastman Office of Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Washington County Coroner’s Office were called to investigate the situation per policy guidelines.

    According to the press release, it is believed that the inmate died from a medical related event due to an underlying medical condition. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of the inmate’s death.

    The case is remaining active by the GBI.
