The Hershey Bears defeated the Coachella Valley Firebirds 5-4 in overtime in Game 6 to win the Calder Cup.

In a rematch of the 2022-23 finals, the Firebirds were hoping for a different result. The Firebirds had a 2-1 series lead going into Game 3, but three straight one-goal wins got the job done for the Bears.

Game 6 started well for the Firebirds with Ryan Winterton opening the scoring 1:37 into the game. The Bears answered back with two goals in the first period to take a 2-1 lead.

Marian Studenic and Winterton scored back-to-back goals in the second period to give the Firebirds a 3-2 lead. The Bears would answer late in the second period to tie the game back at 3-3.

Pierrick Dube would score his second goal of the game in the third period to give the Bears a 4-3 lead. With less than three minutes remaining, Cale Fleury pounced on a loose puck and found the back of the net to tie the game. Shane Wright picked up his third assist of the game on Fleury's goal.

Unfortunately just 1:06 into the overtime frame, Matt Strome ended the Firebirds season and brought the Bears their second consecutive Calder Cup.

It was once again a successful season for the Firebirds but they fell short of the ultimate goal at the final stage once again. Their young players took great strides in their development and could carve out time with the Seattle Kraken next season.

A new wave of Kraken prospects will play with the Firebirds next season and they'll be in the hunt to get back to the finals once again.
