If you're like us, you're always on the hunt for beauty products that work specifically for mature skin . As great as TikTok and other social media platforms can be for finding out what people are using and loving, these recommendations are often coming from younger creators, and many times, products that work for their skin just don't do it for our skin. But fear not — there are hundreds of brands and thousands of makeup, skincare and other beauty products out there that will and do work for women over 50. We talked to dozens of your favorite celebrities and influential women over 50 at the QVC Age of Possibility Summit to find out what they love using on their skin and their go-to essentials. Keep reading to see celebrities' favorite beauty products to add to your routine.
It's about time we had some celebration for women over 50! Women in this age group are often overlooked in the market place, despite having the most disposable income. To change that, QVC put together the "Age of Possibility" campaign, which consists of 50 women over 50 from Martha Stewart to Christina Applegate to Sherri Shepherd and more who are owning and celebrating what it means to be over 50.
The goal of the summit was to bring women together to discuss what it really means to age, the excitement that comes with being over 50 and so much more to empower and lift up women in this age group.
What women over 50 want in beauty products
What a 20-year-old looks for in a product is going to differ from what a 50-year-old needs. As we age, our skin goes through changes just like the rest of our body, especially once we hit menopause. These changes can include everything from extra dry skin to hormonal breakouts, fine lines and wrinkles and more. We want products that are extra hydrating, firming and smoothing and have non-stripping ingredients, just to name a few.
And, we don't want to break the bank on products that have false claims. With so many to choose from, it can feel overwhelming trying to find a product that really works — which is why it's so important for women over 50 to share what works for them, that they've tried first hand, with each other.
Sandra Lee , television chef and author, told us this is the one beauty product she cannot live without. It's made with botanical extracts like aloe and arnica to calm skin, mallow and cucumber extracts to help with redness and blemishes while also moisturizing and grapeseed oil to target fine lines and wrinkles and neutralize free radicals.
Korean skincare is trending, and Mary Claire Haver, MD , author and menopause expert loves Korean sunscreens . "Every woman should invest in a really high quality sunscreen. I'm digging all the Korean brands that are coming out because they are SPF50 but no cast," she says.
Sherri Shepherd , beloved TV host, actress, comedian and author says she loves a good moisturizer, and names IKNOW Skincare as one of her favorites. "I use a product called IKNOW Skincare, and it's for women of color who are of a seasoned age," shares Shepherd. "I stopped going on my Instagram looking at 20-year-olds telling me how to make their skin glow, because I'm like, 'I need someone who's been through life.' My skin has been through life, and I need really good products to keep up with it."
Martha Stewart is well-known not just for her cooking and hosting, but also for her beauty regimen. Despite being 82, her skin looks glowy and hydrated. How she achieves this? One of the ways is by protecting her skin from the sun! The Q50 member told us that the product she would take with her on a deserted island is a tinted sunblock. "I have several that I like to use — Alastin is one that I use everyday... That's very important, especially on a deserted island," she says.
Retinol is known to be the "superhero" ingredient when it comes to anti-aging, and Dr. Haver agrees. "You need a retinoid, so some kind of a retinol, retina, retinal, to improve the collagen and skin regeneration," she says. This one by Paula's Choice is a fan-favorite, containing a blend of vitamin C and peptides on top of 1% retinol.
Martha Stewart also named this tinted sunscreen as one of her favorites. Although a splurge, if you're looking to treat yourself, this one is a good investment. It protects skin from UV rays, as well as pollution, and leaves skin with a radiant, smooth finish.
This makeup line was actually created by QVC Quintessential 50 member Doris Dalton, MD , and is a clean, cruelty-free makeup brand. T.C.E. stands for "this covers everything" and it truly does do wonders for covering blemishes, skin imperfections and texture. "It's a serum-infused foundation that gives you the most beautiful skin and the most beautiful coverage. It takes care of your skin as you're wearing it, and it's clean beauty and cruelty-free beauty," says Dr. Dalton.
Another of Dr. Haver's favorites is an estriol cream. "I'm loving the estriol creams. They're completely safe. There are some estrogen derivatives coming out because when we go through menopause, we lose 30% of the collagen in our skin. So this is one way we can combat that safely with no worries of systemic absorption," she says.
There's nothing like some good old fashioned olive oil when it comes to superhero ingredients. Tamsen Fadal , host, menopause advocate and author loves incorporating olive oil into her skincare routine. When asked what beauty product she would take with her on a deserted island, she said "I would take any type of serum or oil. I have a couple of different favorites actually, but I like olive oil at the end of the day too! It's a big deal for me." You can just take the olive oil from your kitchen or you can use a product like this DHC one.
This oil is made for all skin types and is one of 90210 star Jennie Garth 's beauty go-tos, she tells us. It's made with maclura pomifera seed oil, a botanical that can help improve not just skin, but hair and nails too.
