CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Two local organizations are looking to put the stories of people across the region in the spotlight for a new project.

The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation and the Appalachia Funders Network are partnering to launch “Narrative Change.” The new project looks to combine journalism, storytelling and art to build a stronger sense of positive narrative within the Kanawha Valley.

Emma Pepper, who helps manage the project, says the project strives to give every person in the community a voice.

“We want to start to focus on the more harmful stories in our community, and what’s holding people back, what’s getting people down, and how we can help people to be better contributors in our communities. And so that’s the kind of thing we’re talking about today,” Pepper said.

Musicians, journalists and education workers all attended an open house for the project with the goal of helping others gain a true and helpful perspective of what it’s like to live in the Kanawha Valley.
