DOT seeks improvements on U.S. 141

LENA — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region announces a new U.S. 141 Design Project website is now available to view proposed improvements on U.S. 141 between the U.S. 141/Highway 22 interchange in Oconto County and the U.S. 141/Highway 64 interchange in Marinette County.

WisDOT asks the public to review the proposed improvement project’s scope, schedule and traffic impacts and provide comments before the final design. There is a comment form on the website with a prepaid mailer to reply to the project team. Citizens also can email the project team or call them directly with comments.

The website includes maps of the project limits and location, scope and schedule, traffic impacts, displays and exhibits, and resources for business in work zones.

The project aims to improve the safety of U.S. 141 and eliminate the severity of pavement heaving during the winter months. The heaving is caused when ice forms under the pavement.

Proposed improvements include removing sections of the existing concrete pavement on U.S. 141 at fifteen locations between Highway 22 and Highway 64 for frost heave mitigation. Crews will excavate four feet below the pavement surface to remove frost-susceptible soils and prevent reoccurrence. Work also includes resurfacing of two railroad crossings in the project limits.

Construction is currently scheduled for 2028. U.S. 141 will remain open for construction using flagging and lane closures. County Trunk A and County Trunk B will be closed and detoured during work on intersection ramps.
