Democratic strategist James Carville had some harsh words for Steve Bannon , who is set to serve a four-month prison sentence starting next month .
Bannon was convicted of contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena from the House Jan. 6 select committee.
During Tuesday’s edition of The Beat on MSNBC, host Ari Melber read some recent comments from Bannon about the 2020 election.
“We’re the railhead of the big steal every day, with every aspect of it, and we take pride in it,” he told The Guardian. “I’m adamant. There shouldn’t be anybody in the Trump campaign or the [Republican National Committee] in a paid position that does not believe to the marrow of their bones that the 2020 election was stolen. If you don’t believe that, to me, you miss the point of where we are and why we’re here.”
Bannon, a former White House adviser to former President Donald Trump , has pledged “accountability” for Trump’s political enemies in a second term.
“He will incarcerated under this federal calendar on election day,” Melber told Carville. “He’s demanding any position in the party, you have to spew these lies about their past loss.”
“Well, he’s gonna have four months to contemplate everything,” Carville responded. “But I think whoever his cellmate is can make a good Eighth Amendment case if you remember that from law school. That’s cruel and unusual punishment. You have to be in the cell and smell this guy. I think that’s something out of some North Korean torture chamber. But he’s going to have, boy’s gonna have a lot of time to think about 2020 and his past life and whatever the future holds because he’s going to the penitentiary, probably for longer than four months. But please, Lord… he needs a cell by himself because he’s gonna stink that jail up something fierce.”
In addition to the federal contempt conviction, Bannon is awaiting trial in New York on state fraud charges.
