Steve Burton made his final appearance on Days of our Lives yesterday.

On Monday's episode of the Peacock soap, Steve had his last episode as Harris Michael on June 24 . He made his debut as Harris in 1988 and then went on to other roles in The Young and The Restless and then General Hospital where he is best known for his role as Jason Morgan.

The soap star came back as his Days' character in the summer of 2022 for the limited series Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem 2 and then went to the original show in March 2023.

His last episode of the show was taped in January 2024. Steve posted a video on the Daily Drama's YouTube page expressing the bitterweet moment and his gratitude. He said; "Wow! Well, I just shot my final scenes here on 'Days of Our Lives,' and I just want to say, thank you so much to the cast [and] to the crew. It’s been amazing."

In the Monday episode, Harris told Ava (Tamara Braun) he was heading out of Salem because he's following up a lead on the villainous Megan Hathaway (Miranda Wilson) because of Hope (Kristian Alfonso). Hope can't leave Bo (Peter Reckell) so Harris will be tracking Megan especially since she has tried to ruin his life.

Before he left in an emotional parting, Harris slept with Ava one last time. Before they slept together he let her know how he will always care for her and that they needed to work on their issues if they wanted a future together. In Soap Opera Digest , Tamara talked to the outlet about Steve Burton's exit.

"You hold on as tight as you can before you let go. You try to feel everything real, good and intimate, and you cry and you say good-bye. It’s sad," she said of their charaters' relationship.

She was also saddened on a personal level.

"Of course, I was sad to see Steve leave," she told the outlet. "I enjoyed working with him again and building this relationship between Ava and Harris."

"It seemed the powers-that-be were invested in the characters, so it was a bummer that he left because the couple couldn’t continue. But Steve needed to go," Tamara continued.

"He’s back at GH where he wants to be and that’s important for him. I want people to be happy. Life is short," she ended.

The 53-year-old made his much awaited return as lovable bad boy Jason on General Hospital on March 4, 2024 after his return was revealed on the General Hospital’s 60th anniversary special early this year in January. He was previously let go from the ABC soap in November 2021 for not complying with the vaccine mandate.
