Last year's summer in Mississippi was brutal with several cities setting daily records for heat and this summer appears to be poised for another scorcher .

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center , odds are in favor of a hotter-than-average summer with a 40%-50% chance of being hotter than average during June, July and August. Right now, it's still June and temperatures have already been in the upper 90s with heat indices well over 100 degrees.

Throw in Mississippi's typical over-the-top humidity and you have a special kind of misery.

So, how hot can it get in Mississippi? The answer may surprise you. In August 2023, Jackson reached 106 degrees, but it has been slightly hotter. In 2000 the temperature reached an all-time temperature record of 107.

However, that's not even close to the hottest temperature ever recorded in Mississippi. On July 29, 1930, the temperature reached 115 degrees in Holly Springs for the state's all-time high.

About now you may be wondering what the high temperature record is in your area. So, below is a look at record temperatures around Mississippi, according to extremeweatherwatch.com .
